Staying on track – Tony’s story
30 Apr 2026
Tony booked his Norfolk NHS Health Check after finding the service online, looking for a general check‑up to make sure he was fit and well.
Before attending his appointment, Tony explained that he tried to exercise as much as possible. Following a cancer diagnosis a couple of years ago and subsequent surgery last year, he felt it was a good opportunity to take stock of his overall health.
“I felt okay after my NHS Health Check, but it was really useful as I discovered I had high blood pressure. Since then, I’ve ordered a blood pressure monitor so I can keep an eye on it.”
The NHS Health Check is mainly aimed at lowering your risk of getting cardiovascular illnesses (diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels) such as heart disease and stroke. But the risk factors for heart disease and stroke are often the same as risk factors for other conditions, including preventable cancers and respiratory illness.
“The NHS Health Check helped highlight something I wasn’t aware of and gave me the reassurance of knowing what I need to focus on going forward.”
Tony’s main goal following his NHS Health Check is to continue monitoring his blood pressure and to maintain his physical activity levels. He plans to do this by accessing the gym more regularly and continuing to stay active.
“Looking back, I’m glad I went for it. My advice to anyone who might be unsure would simply be to go for a check‑up.”
